About Us

Practical Action

We use technology to challenge poverty in developing countries. Our strength is our approach. We find out what people are doing and help them to do it better. Through technology we enable poor communities to build on their skills and knowledge to produce sustainable and practical solutions - transforming their lives forever and protecting the world around them. By doing this each year we help around a million people break out of the cycle of poverty... for good. Our publications, knowledge and approach are used in almost every developing country in the world - extending the reach of our practical approach to tackling poverty.

Centre for Science Education

We are one of the UK’s leading academic groups in STEM education, based in the Institute of Education at Sheffield Hallam University. We have specific focus on science, working to improve the experience of young people in school science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), often in partnership with schools, organisations and industry. We also focus on skills, employment, and equality and diversity issues in education and the workplace, incorporating research and evaluation, curriculum design and development, innovation in CPD, teacher development and education consultancy.
